Christmas Break

Over Christmas break I am planning to visit my relatives, such as my grandparents, aunts and uncles. I also have to complete some last minute Christmas shopping for some of my family members. Decorating our house and Christmas tree are some traditions that my family likes to do. Also, baking Christmas foods with my friends  I am looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the time that I have with my family. I would like to receive various items for Christmas, such as iTunes gift cards, books, clothes, jewelry, and a new laptop. This is what I am doing over Christmas break.

All About College

By attending college, I hope to acquire a degree in a profitable field. I am going to college because I think that it is important to continue learning every day, and attending college will aid me in that goal. When choosing a college I have to consider what type of work or study that I am interested in. I will seek my friend's and families input in which college I should attend, as well as what my major should be. In the future my goal is to be a speech/language pathologist and college will help me attain this goal by providing me with the studies that I need, as well as with the degree itself.

Thanksgiving

I am not really positive on what I am doing for thanksgiving, but I know that I will be spending it with my family. We (my family) will be eating together and enjoying each other's company. Having friends and family over to think about what we are thankful about and to fellowship in Christ together during Thanksgiving is one of the things that I look forwards to during the year. I will almost definitely be going black Friday shopping with my friends this year during Thanksgiving break. That is what I will be doing for Thanksgiving break.

Virtual Job

I found a job at Buffalo Wild Wings as a greeter. This job does not require much, except the employee has to be the age of sixteen and must be authorized to work in the United States. In the ob description, Buffalo Wild Wings mentions that, "If you enjoy working in a fun, high-energy environment with a growing company where the game is always on, we invite you to bring your enthusiasm and passion to Buffalo Wild Wings. Come join a team that is all about sports, great food, family and friends!" This job is appropriate for me, considering that I fit all of the requirements in the job description, and the job is part-time. The location of this Buffalo Wild Wings is also a plus, considering that I live relatively close to the place of work. To prepare for a possible interview for this job, I would create a resume of past job experiences that I have participated in. I would also make sure that I came across happy and polite, as the job description seems to require. Finding this job online was not very difficult. I just searched possible part-time jobs for high school students, and this job seemed to fit the mold. There were also many other jobs that seemed interesting and worth looking into if one was actually considering applying for a job.

"Homeless to Harvard"

The movie, "Homeless to Harvard", is very inspirational and eye-opening. I don't know if I would have had the courage that Liz possessed which allowed her to step out of all of the stereotypes that were holding her down. My favorite part of the film was when she realized that she wanted to get an education after her mother died. I like this part because it is the turning point in the movie where instead of going downhill, she was finally making upwards bounds. It must have been very difficult to complete four years of high school in only two while working a job, but if I had a motivation like Liz did than I like to think that I would have worked hard to receive an education like she did.

Budget

What surprised me the most about my budget was how much debt I would be in if my job was only paying ten dollars an hour, and if I did not acquire any financial support from my family. I was expecting the things that were required to spend money on, such as housing and food, but I was not expecting that I would be In that much debt. I do not think that I am fully prepared for all of this responsibility, and I am glad that I have at least one more year to become prepared. I realized that I am going to need a lot of help, and it is going to take a lot of hard work in order to get through college. To prepare for those challenges in the future, I can work hard to get scholarships to cut off on some of the college debt.

Career Choice

My top career choice would be speech therapy, or speech/language pathology. I would choose this career because I am prepared for the classes that I would have to take in order to receive and obtain a master's degree. Also, I love working with children and it would be a very rewarding and fantastic opportunity to be able to aid them in their speaking abilities. Also, there are several more jobs opening up for speech therapists in the future, so it would be fairly easy to find a job in this profession. The pay is also very rewarding as well.

Stress Test

My test score was an eight, which means that my life is "in fairly good control". I suppose that I would agree with this conclusion. I don't feel like I get stressed out very easily, but other's around me tell me that I am stressed out all the time. I guess that being around people stresses me out more than anything else. I solve this problem by avoiding people. When people are bad at communicating and I have to work harder to understand them, which occasionally inconveniences me in the long run, I get stressed out. Whenever I get stressed out my shoulders hurt really badly, and they have been hurting ever since school started so I can assume that school also stresses me out. The reason why school stresses me out is probably because I am around more people at school. Also, I kind of freak out about assignments like projects or papers and I spend several hours trying to perfect my work which often leads me to stay up really late at night and then I fail to get enough sleep. I try to solve this problem by being on top of my work so that I have time to perfect my work and therefore I don't stay up so late. Those are the things that stress me out the most, and that is how I solve them.

Organizational Method

My current organizational method is a written planner and it works out well for me because it is easy to access and easy to write in. Procrastination is not productive, and often times results in producing low-grade work based on the amount of time spent on said assignment. I can fight procrastination by placing the more important things, like school work in front of the things that I want to do, like watch T.V..

College Transition

I am looking forward to this college transition class because I am excited to begin my college experience. My older sister took the college transition class while she was in high school and she was relieved that she decided to take that class. She expressed to me that this class really helped her in applying for colleges and acquiring scholarships. I hope to gain this knowledge while in this class this year to better my chances of gaining scholarships and knowledge about applications.
